8. San Marcos de Apalache State Historic Site

I am not even sure if this is the same place that I went to when I was a teen many long years ago, and I really don't know how helpful it will be. I did not even remember the name of the place until I studied all the state parks in Northwest Florida and discovered that this is the only one with a Spanish Fort in just about the right place. I have a fond memory of the place, and now that I have children of my own, I want to go back there. When my parents took my siblings and myself, we were the only people there. It was quiet and historic. I was just getting old enough to read and appreciate all the signs scattered around describing the historic significance of the place. It is good for people who like to read about history as they stroll around looking at scenery. A zoo or the beach might be more accomodating for smaller children, but I liked this one, or maybe I just liked Northwest Florida. That is a tough call.
