3. Monticello-Jefferson County Watermelon Festival

The Buzz -- Held in downtown Monticello each June, this festival celebrates that favorite summertime treat, the watermelon. A multitude of activities – a 5K run, a parade, a rodeo and lots of music and street dancing – adds to the fun. You'll also find plenty of barbecue and other refreshments. Most events are free.
