5. Waterworks

Waterworks is not a Gay/Lesbian bar/club. It's an everyone-is-welcome place. The staff is awesome, the drinks are well done (ask for the "water moccasin") and the music rocks. Start with a "crème brulée" at Chez Pierre and finish off at Waterworks. Do this every friday for 80's and pop music.

Don't let the exterior of this fabulous lounge fool ya'. Waterworks is by far the best social spot to be if you find yourself in the panhandle of Florida. The setting may seem unusual to a new entrant, but the quirky "kewl" decor will soon consume you with warm, fuzzy, happy vibes. Another element of feel good are the bartenders and owner. The owner is by far the most amazing bar owner I have met. He cares about his guests and treats them with care, as does his employees. I love the monkeys, blowfish lamps, yummy capri's, and the space lounge in the back. It is a true haven and gem in Tallahassee. Oh and there's a magical dance floor. Once your toes touch, you can't help but dance to the all to sweet grooves.

The live jazz at the Waterworks is a Tallahassee staple. Go order one of the crazy specialty drinks (that come in mugs shaped like pineapples, skulls, and the like) or stick to the classic cocktails (like, say, a gin martini). Friday nights are DJ-driven indie rock nights, and loads of fun, for a $1 cover, no less. The management seems to be constantly improving the bar itself... and their efforts have yielded a nice outside area for audible conversations, as well as a smoke-free enclosed porch-like space with its own bar and relaxed atmosphere.

This is the place to go for low-key alternative types. Art and film students tend to the bar, kitschy Polynesian decor and good live music.
