2. Cava

MIDTOWN.   Chef/owner Chris McDonald, formerly of the award-winning Avalon, opened Cava in 2006, and in spite of a rather unappealing strip mall location, it captured the attention of TO foodies almost immediately. Tapas and wine doesn’t get much better than this. Start off with traditional marinated olives or marcona almonds, or be adventurous and try the chipotle-caramel popcorn. Then sample fantastic little dishes of duck-anchovy torta, wild mushroom-corn tamal with ancho sauce, salt cod cake with piperade, grilled sardines with tapenade, or cider poached foie gras with spiced pears.   (© 10Best)
