DOWNTOWN.   Part of a small, historic steakhouse chain, Hy's is something of a Toronto institution, and it is a lovely place to enjoy a special night out. Perfectly aged steaks are the draw, with several cuts and preparations available, from an expertly charcoal broiled NY strip to a more elaborate filet mignon topped with crab and hollandaise. The Cajun spice rubbed ribeye is a winner, but one of the most popular choices is prime rib served with Yorkshire pudding. Sides include beer battered onion rings, fresh spinach or asparagus, and grilled tomatoes.   (© 10Best)

The food did not match the presentation. The atmosphere is elegant and the service was good. However, the quality of the food does not justify the cost. (Tossed salad is the same as you would find in a chain restaurant salad bar). The steak I had was cooked as ordered but extremely salted.

Our Valentine experience at Hy's leaves much to be desired: after celebrating Valentine and other special occasions as a couple and with our friends for the last several years at Hy's, we came for this year's Valentine with our 21-year old daughter. After the waitress took our order for drinks and menus in the lounge, she came back wondering, if we had specific dinner plans, and when our answer was "no", the waitress' manager demanded an ID from our daughter. Since the manager chose not to believe us, that she is 21, and that her driver's license was left in the car parked downstairs, we had no other choice but to leave and go to [elsewhere], where the dinner, the service and the view were impeccable.
