DOWNTOWN.   The trendy Hotel Congress has a happening little café that serves what many consider to be the best breakfast around. All the familiar favorites are offered, along with some more creative options such as the Boom Boom (scrambled eggs, cheese and roasted red potatoes piled on a toasted baguette), Eggs and Gunpowder (a bowl of roasted red potatoes topped with eggs, turkey chorizo and jack cheese), and Bennie's Burrito (a tortilla stuffed with scrambled eggs, spicy black beans, sprouts, jack cheese, diced green chiles, black olives, sour cream and fresh salsa). Lunch and dinner tend to be more international in scope, but the food is equally wonderful.   (© 10Best)

WOW! The long wait 30-45 minutes was shortened while watching the bartender create amazing bloody mary's from the bloody mary bar. For $6 you choose from a variety of items to add to your drink ~ cilantro, cheese, spices, avocado, pepper, horseradish, roasted garlic ... the list goes on. To top it off it is poured into a salt and pepper rimmed glass and garnished with your choice (olives, celery, pickle). That in itself would have been a great breakfast ... but I chose one of the daily breakfast specials - Tres Amigos - three perfectly poached eggs on top of a baguette with tomato and crab meat and covered with hollandaise and a side of their amazing roasted red potato medley ~ yum! It's worth your trip downtown even with all of the construction traffic.
