DOWNTOWN. Boasting one of central New York's most prestigious art collections, MWPAI evolved from holdings of the Williams and Proctor families. It's come a long way since then and now offers a permanent collection of more than 25,000 items. Exhibits are displayed in both a Philip Johnson-designed building and a renovated mansion dating to the mid-19th-century. Collections are heavy in American and European works from the 18th to 20th centuries and Victorian decorative arts. Temporary exhibits are also frequent.
