DOWNTOWN. A kinder, gentler nightlife option, Chatter Box boasts an eclectic coffeehouse atmosphere that's especially conducive to conversation and hanging out with friends. Artwork adorns the walls, and comfy furniture invites patrons to relax while enjoying live bands (jazz and blues mainly) and DJ-spun music. More intriguing events include tarot card readings and massage therapy. Beer, wine, coffee drinks, and smoothies are available, along with appetizers and desserts.

UTICA. This club serves a dual purpose in town, as both a dance venue and a place for live bands to perform. When dancing is on the slate, DJs spin a variety of tunes; when bands take the stage, rock is generally the favored style. That's not to say, however, that other types of music don't appear. Diverse acts frequent the place, and DJs cater the music they spin to their own tastes and to those of the crowds.

DOWNTOWN. Aged brick walls and hardwood floors surround club-goers at this appealing venue, which is a great place to grab a beer or cocktail and socialize. Daily drink specials up the ante a bit, and a pool table, dart board, and foosball table provide easy distraction. Live bands play occasionally, and when they're not around, a great jukebox takes on crowds with a supply of tunes. You'll also find folks dancing regularly when the spirit hits and the rhythms move them.

DOWNTOWN. Subdued colors set a calming tone at this spacious, multi-level lounge in the Radisson hotel. Hang out at the bar and meet other travelers, or gather at a table with colleagues and decompress from the day. A lounge area with TVs and upholstered furniture lets you wind down even more comfortably. Food is available should the munchies strike, and Encore not only stocks a good selection of alcohol but is known for its slection of microbrews too.

DOWNTOWN. You can't go wrong with a drink and some good conversation at this beautifully renovated hotel. The upscale venue is a favorite of business folks, who appreciate its tasteful surroundings, attentive bartenders, and range of libations. On Friday and Saturday evenings, live piano music adds to the ambience and sets the mood for leisure. Food is available when you need something to munch over the course of an evening.

DOWNTOWN. Clean-lined urban style distinguishes this upscale lounge from many of Utica's other bars and venues. Opened by a trio of young professionals, the place caters to folks with a few more dollars to spend who crave a place with style and substance. Cocktails are well-mixed if not a bit pricier than at surrounding bars, and music ranges from soothing jazz to more electronic-based tunes. On certain nights, you'll also be regaled by disco classics and favorites from the '80s.

UTICA. You'll have no shortage of things to do at this long-lived club. For approximately 20 years, That Place has served Utica's gay population and extended an invitation to all folks, gay and straight. Great DJs and fun bartenders ensure that everyone has a good time, and music videos add background interest and ambience. Other pastimes include pool-playing and dart-throwing. Intermittently, you'll also find karaoke, drag, college, and dance nights.

Mornings, it functions as a coffee bar, and at lunch, it serves a variety of noontime fare, including affordable sandwiches. Come evening, however, The Devereux transforms into a bar and live music venue. Folks hang out amid the welcoming ambience and partake of the bands, who sometimes include nationally known groups. Music styles range from rock to jazz, blues, and more.

NEW HARTFORD. Although it's known as a family restaurant with a '50s flair, this fun establishment also pulls in folks for its great happy hours. Many patrons take advantage of Zebb's zesty appetizers, which include nachos, chicken wings, and hand-cut fries. Others just like to toss back a cold one, whether it's draft, bottled, or a microbrew. A host of fun cocktails satisfies adventurous folks too, and if you decide you want more than munchies, the full menu is available in the dining room. What could be easier?
