This cozy West End Parisian-style bistro features traditional French cuisine that includes onion soup generously topped with Gruyere cheese, half-chicken with peppercorn sauce, and the most wonderful "pommes frites" in town. Options from the savory menu, starters to dessert, are listed on a blackboard and prove to be reliably tasty.   (© 10Best)

THE ONE THING I CAN SAY IS B.C. IS WONDERFUL AND WE HAD THE CHANCE HAPPENING TO WALK BY A LOVELY BISTRO ON DENMAN STREET TO HEAR THE MOST UNUSUAL MAN SINGING AND LAUGHING AND ALL THE GREAT SMELLS. FOR THE NAME "CAFE DE PARIS," WE HAD TO LOOK CLOSER AND TO OUR SUPRISE THE DANCING CLOWN WAS THE OWNER AND HE HAD EVERYONE IN THE RESTAURANT LAUGHING AND SINGING WITH HIM. WE ASKED IF WE COULD STAY FOR DINNER AND BE SEATED. THE PLACE WAS PACKED SO HE SAT US AT THE BAR AND ORDERED THE BARTENDER TO GIVE US TWO GLASSES OF WINE ON THE HOUSE, WELL HE HAD ME THEN. 15 MINUTES LATER WE WERE AT THE TABLE AND ALL I CAN SAY FROM THE ONION SOUP TO THE CHEESE CAKE WE WERE ENTHRALLED. WE HAD THE MOST WONDRFUL DINNER THAT WE HAVE HAD IN SOMETIME. IT IS JUST THE PLACE TO GO WHEN YOUR IN VANCOUVER. DINNER RAN ABOUT 50.00 FOR BOTH OF US AND THAT'S WITH COCKTAILS. THE PLACE IS SMALL FUN AND HOMEy WITH ALL KIND OF DELIGHTS TO SEE AND TASTE. "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

Café De Paris can be best described as an authentic but a boring French bistro. Recently, I have traveled to Quebec City, Montreal and some of the French restaurants in the heart of French Quebec City was less desirable which can be described as tourist food. Luckily, Café de Paris is not a tourist trap. The service is rather snobby and not much attention was given to the customer for a half empty restaurant. The dishes, however, are genuine French but I just wish the dishes tasted better, more exciting to the taste buds. The pommes frites (French fries) are similar to "New York Fries" in the food court. The food looks real but taste like economy class, lunch specials are reasonably priced, but boring. There are better French restaurants in Vancouver, but this one is not overly expensive. In short, Café de Paris is an entry level stodgy French bistro, that doesn't give much sparks to the buds. Not recommended if you're going for fine French cuisine.
