We know, we know – you're not fully functional in the morning until you've downed at least two cups of coffee. While you're in Vancouver, some of that coffee should come from Caffe Artigiano. With a menu of some 30 desserts, Death By Chocolate may well be your favorite stop in Vancouver. Every menu option features chocolate – sometimes it's disguised as a dip for fruit or a filling for crepes, but it's in there. So whether you choose a "Joseph's Amazing Technicolor Dreamcake," a "Between the Sheets," or a "Multitude of Sins," your craving will be satiated, for the time being, anyway. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening in two seatings (6pm-8:30pm and 8:30pm-10pm), the restaurant pulls out all the stops, presenting a dessert extravaganza that will either leave you completely spent or begging for more. The Master Chocolatier and Pastry Chef brings you sorbets, pies, cakes and more. Be sure to watch as they create the house special Brittany crêpes.

Decisions, decisions, but how can you choose just one of the more than 200 flavors available at La Casa Gelato which prides itself on having the most flavors, bar none? Asian-inspired red bean, taro root, lychee and purple yam sits side-by-side with Italian favorites amaretto, hazelnut and tartuffo. Then of course there's offbeat radicchio, avocado, curry and jalapeno to set your taste buds a tingle. Come hungry and be prepared to experiment. Calorie counters take heart, there are non-fat, non-dairy, low-fat and sugar-free options too.

If history is important to you, you'll appreciate that Bon Ton has been teasing Vancouver's sweet tooth since 1926. Tempting cakes, pies, cookies and pastries fill the cases, so good luck choosing just one. The Diplomat Cake comes highly recommended, and the macaroons are wonderfully light and tender.

KITSILANO. When writer Ernestine Ulmer said, "Life is uncertain, eat dessert first," she surely would have high-tailed it to Sweet Obession to indulge. Self-educated pastry chef Lorne Tyczenski offers a mouthwatering array of cakes, tarts and flans that will satisy even the most sophisticated of dessert connoisseurs. The 16-seat cafe is next door to its full service partner Trafalgar's Bistro and provides their tasty treats as well. Hint: the selections at Sweet Obsession are slightly lower priced than at the Bistro but are the same.

KITSILANO. The crusty, hearth-baked breads that emerge from this restaurant's stone-deck oven are unparalleled. Baguettes are made in an authentic French-style, using only unbleached flour without additives, fillers or preservatives. It should be no surprise that the sandwiches made with these delectable breads are simply outstanding, and the sweet treats are irresistible.

KITSILANO. This intimate neighborhood bistro has a menu overflowing with global culinary influences. France, Italy, Greece, Spain and Asia are well represented in a selection of entrees that can be enjoyed for brunch, lunch and dinner. With the all-day tapas and late night desserts it is possible to linger for hours sipping something from the well-edited wine list which includes port or perhaps a liqueur or brandy. The outdoor patio is bedecked with small trees and tables and accommodates guests the year round.
