Dinner entrees may include Quebec foie gras, Alberta beef tenderloin, or pan seared Baja scallops. The lunch menu features pizza, pastas, and roasted meat dishes. Finger sandwiches, baked scones and pastries are served during afternoon tea in the adjacent lounge which also features piano music during cocktail hour. This cozy West End Parisian-style bistro features traditional French cuisine that includes onion soup generously topped with Gruyere cheese, half-chicken with peppercorn sauce, and the most wonderful "pommes frites" in town. The Alsatian-style cuisine at this elegant restaurant is most pronounced in the savory onion pie served with a glass of chilled Alsace Edelzwicker. Other rich and saucy classics include calf's liver in garlic spinach butter, duck in a reduction with olives, and rabbit in a pinot noir sauce. The salmon is grilled with the skin on, and the Dover sole is pan-fried to perfection. Finish your meal with French cheeses or nibble on them prior to indulging in one of the many fine desserts.

Traditional French cuisine with an interesting contemporary twist defines the menu at this romantic West End restaurant. Start with the fresh foie gras with endive, apples and raisin marmalade and follow with the poached smoked Alaskan cod in burnt orange sauce and anise coulis, grilled pork tenderloin with Calvados and Stilton sauce, or the Thai curry lobster. The dessert specialty is the marvelous lili cake, which is a soft almond and hazelnut meringue with an almond crème anglaise. The wine cellar features an extensive list of Bordeaux wines.

This cutting-edge West Side restaurant offers contemporary French cuisine in an understated modern setting. Three- or eight-course menus change frequently and may include five-spice duck consommé, roast venison medallions with kumquat and pineapple chutney, and a Valrhona tart with rum and butter chestnuts. A separate yet sumptuous dessert menu features hazelnut mocha with double-milk ice cream mousse and coconut and kaffir lime leaf brûlée.

Want to feel like you've turned the corner and landed in Paris? Seek out this little cafe right in the middle of the French Cultural Center and your wallet will thank you in more ways than one. No airfare for starters and a great value on well-prepared dishes. You'll need a rudimentary knowlege of French to make a selection from a menu that includes classics such as carnard confit and lapin grille entrees and for dessert crème brulée du jour or decadent gâteau ganache. KITSILANO. Contemporary and rustic, elegant flavors and a cozy neighborhood setting make the Dog a "must eat." Menu items are inspired by French and Mediterranean methods and ingredients and may include traditional French onion soup alongside insalata caprese with creamy mozzarella or scallops, lamb chops or escargot.
