JAMES BAY.   This historic 1907 teahouse offers one of Victoria's most authentic British dining experiences. Fresh, home-cooked breakfasts of eggs, kippers and muffins are served with your choice of tea or coffee. The hash browns and scones are also not to be missed. Afternoon tea includes scones, jam, tarts and cream. Tea sandwiches and friendly, efficient service complete the picture.   (© 10Best)

Small cozy setting with horrible food.
You can go around Victoria and find far better places than this one. After-all, the food will taste better than this one. I've ordered an omelet with hash browns and my friend ordered an veggie omelet with the side of tea (with free refill.) Although I agree that comparison to Empress the tea was much cheaper, the prices were outrageous anyways. (My recommendation, go about another block or two and get your tea from either Starbucks or Thrifty Store (buy a box of tea and make it in your own place.)) Oh, did I mention that the refill never came? Or perhaps the server did not even audacity to ask us whether the food was good or not? Once the food arrived, I knew there was a trouble in paradise. The omelet with hash brown looked like it was just standing like a stupid stick in the middle of big plate and nothing else was around it for miles... The veggie omelet was decent size, but whatever the ingredient was, made my friend visit the bathroom, right in the middle of the meal (and afterwards.) Overall, save your money, save your trip. Either find a better place or just have a meal at your hotel place.

I took some out of town guests here and was embarassed. They obviously are on the "milk the tourists" bandwagon. The servers were great, the regular menu was nice but their "tea" was extremely overpriced and sub-standard. Trifle is NOT instant chocolate pudding poured over tinned tropical fruit cocktail.

One of the saddest dining experiences in some time, the service is fine, but the food is Terrible, go for a tea and a scone maybe, but if you order food, you've been warned (bring a can opener and a tin with you if you want to save 5$ on a fruit salad....
