JAMES BAY. Set in a charming old house, the Bent Mast is a warren of different spaces where you can enjoy some fine pub grub, a pint or two, and maybe even a live performance. Regional musicians often entertain here, playing mostly folk, acoustic, Irish and bluegrass tunes. The Victoria Nautical Song Circle meets here regularly, too, and guests are welcome to join in the fun as the group sings traditional "songs of the sea."

FERNWOOD / HILLSIDE. Tired of lame cover bands and top 40-type crooners? Then head down to Logan's, where emphasis is on original rock, alt rock, alt country and punk bands from across the region. Occasional big-name acts turn up as well, and Wednesday is open mic night. A great place to experience the local music scene.
