1ST DISTRICT. This archaeological museum displays Greek and Roman artifacts from the site of Ephesus in Turkey and the island of Samothrace in the Aegean Sea. These include architectural fragments of Corinthian columns, tombs, and the library of Celsius, along with bronze and marble sculptures rivaling those found in Istanbul and London. The most outstanding exhibit includes an enormous frieze depicting Lucius Verus's triumph over the Parthians in 165.
