Franz Schubert was born in this apartment in 1797. It served as his home until age five, when he became a member of the Vienna Boys Choir. The two-room apartment overlooks the inner courtyard and is typical of Biedermeier styling. It remains largely unchanged to this day. The composer's manuscripts, along with drawings, paintings and other mementos, are on display. It is equipped with a sound system that allows visitors to use headphones to listen to musical excerpts.
