4TH DISTRICT. This Burial Museum offers an interesting glimpse into the Viennese obsession with funeral rituals and objects. The impressive 18th-century wrought-iron grill at the entrance depicts a crowned skeleton. Displays include a widow's mourning attire; lanterns, staffs and liveries used by 17th-century pall-bearers; a coffin with a bell in the event someone was mistakenly buried alive and re-awakened; and an economy coffin with a trapdoor so that the deceased could be dropped into the grave and the coffin recycled.
