2. Café Central

Many of the great names of the Golden Age of the coffee house wits frequented Café Central: Hugo von Hofmannstal, Anton Kuh, Egon Friedell, Peter Altenberg. It was also a gathering place for the city's chess players – including Leo Trotsky – and the group of philosophers called the "Vienna Circle." The Central was closed after WWII and only re-opened in 1975, but it retains the traditions and much of the atmosphere of its heyday.   (© 10Best)
