VISALIA. Built to honor the thousands of Chinese immigrants who came to California during and after the Great Gold Rush of 1849, this cultural center seeks to preserve Chinese contributions to the state's development from wild frontier to economic and political power. Funded with donations from both the private sector and the People's Republic of China, the center features original artwork, cultural artifacts, and even a Confucian temple.
