VISALIA. One of the downtown area's most beloved landmarks, the Fox Theatre was built in 1930. Its Eastern motif includes a then-state-of-the-art ceiling that could simulate twinkling stars, sunrises, and sunsets. After operating for more than 60 years, the theatre was slated for demolition in the mid-1990s; however, a grassroots effort dubbed "Friends of the Fox" helped save it. Today, the Fox is a performing arts venue that hosts a wide repertoire of concerts, plays, recitals, and social events each season.
