VISALIA.   Since the mid-1960s, Vintage Press has firmly entrenched itself as one of the San Joaquin Valley's finest restaurants. Ideal for a romantic dinner for two, the restaurant sports Old World style – leaded glass, mirrors, rustic antiques, and a certain weathered charm. Main dishes include Free Range Shelton's Chicken with potato gratin and pea shoots, Lamb Shish Kebab with grilled onion and crimini mushrooms, and New York Steak with twice-baked potato and apple-wood smoked bacon. The wine list perfectly complements the menu and offers a good mix of French and Californian labels. Reservations are strongly suggested.   (© 10Best)

This may be the very best restaurant in California. I only get to Visalia once a year to teach peace officers the new laws and I time my trip to Visalia for a Friday so that I can eat at the Vintage Press on Friday and Saturday nights before going on to the next city to continue teaching. There is nothing on the menue that is not unique and special; the service has always been outstanding and the atmosphere is relaxing. Put simply, this is the best restaurant in the state of California!

My first time at this restaurant was a disaster. Although reservations had been made two months in advance when the group I was with arrived we were seated in a room with several other large tables. The waiter/waitresses could just fit in between the tables. I could not carry on a conversation with anyone in my group because of the noise. The meals were served piecemeal. By the time the last group of 4 people were served dinner the first half had already finished their meals. Although the food was delicious it did not make up for the overall noisy & crowded experience.
