1. Brazos River Festival

The Buzz -- This waterside springtime event pays tribute to local history as it simultaneously offers a way to usher in balmy days with a family-friendly slate of activities. Arts and crafts exhibits, great food and entertainment, a children's area, a carnival and tours of historic homes are among the attractions. A somewhat impromptu parade also attracts plenty of attention. The Cotton Palace Pageant, a celebration of the area's cotton-growing heritage, is held in conjunction with the festival and was first begun in 1894.
