WACO. Yes, Elvis ate here! When he was stationed at Fort Hood, he stopped by often, giving it business like many local folks of the time. The long-lived, Spanish-styled eatery still holds pride of place on the Waco traffic circle (where it's been since the 1940s), and lots of people maintain fond memories of it. Today, memorabilia from earlier days adorns the revamped restaurant, and a classy ambience honors The Elite's history. The menu's Dr. Pepper BBQ baby back ribs and chicken fried steak are definitively Waco and are joined by tortilla-crusted catfish, cilantro tilapia with jalapeno polenta, and a center-cut top sirloin.
