NATIONAL MALL.   Sleek geometric designs, 20-foot ceilings, dark tones and an exhibition kitchen set a sophisticated stage at the Mandarin Oriental's signature restaurant, led by James Beard Award winner, chef de cuisine Eric Ziebold. The ingenious fare can be best described as Modern American, though Ziebold allows for a few international nuances in dishes like veal shank with potato gnocchi. The bold wine list features an impressive 800 varietals, and the bar area shelves rare single malt scotches and cognacs. METRO: L'Enfant Plaza   (© 10Best)

A five-course tasting menu might feature delicate Carolina soft-shell crab, oxtail ravioli braised in red wine, or grilled Prime Midwestern beef. Selections from the cheese trolley clear your palate for dessert, perhaps a crème caramel or a Valrhona chocolate mousse. Here’s a detail we love. During the meal, the pastry chef sends a gift of buttery, bite-size Parker House rolls, presented in a small wooden box. (from Southern Living)

I don't know what the previous reviewer was on and how he could rate the CityZen as 2* - this is plain nonsense. This restaurant is well up there IMHO and a reasonable second to Gary Danko's in San Francisco (which I rate as my greatest US dining experience, which is I have to say still some way below the experience in Europe). Nonetheless, even 4/5 stars seems a little mean but I am not able to give it a non-integer number of stars.
