DC Dining Zaytinya

Zaytinya ranks high among the hot new restaurants in Penn Quarter.

DOWNTOWN.   With its stark white walls, high ceilings and dramatic glass facade, Zaytinya has emerged as a popular after-work gathering place. Hot and cold mezze ("middle-of-the-day" meals) enrich the dining scene with contemporary Eastern Mediterranean fare – for example, lamb with hummus, and spiced sirloin with dry fruit compote. For more substantial appetites, the kebab platter or braised lamb shank with eggplant does nicely. An added perk: Their wine list focuses almost exclusively on Greek, Turkish and Lebanese selections. This Penn Quarter hot spot salutes the food, the mood, and the colors of the Mediterranean. Consult your waiter for recommendations for both food and wine, and then order a variety of appetizer-size dishes featuring the flavors of Lebanon, Greece, and Turkey. (from Southern Living)

Excellent food. Clearly the best mediterranean food in the city. Interesting wine selections. One complaint: this is one of the noisiest restaurants anywhere in Washington. If you're going out on a date, you'll probably want to go to another restaurant or else prepare to ask your date "Huh?" every five seconds.

It has a Contemporary Atmosphere reflecting Greek, Turkish and Lebanese cuisine. Very Unique and Refreshing. They serve many different hot and cold Mezzes (small dishes). Very well priced!
