DOWNTOWN.   Since 1856, this landmark bar and restaurant has served DC's power class. Rich with furnishings, including Teddy Roosevelt's hunt trophies, the place never fails to satisfy. Known for its American cuisine, the saloon has a fantastic raw bar with seven types of oysters. It also makes a terrific burger, along with reuben sandwiches, chicken wings, and a more complete dinner menu featuring homemade pastas, fresh steaks, seafood (including the signature trout parmesan) and seasonal vegetables. Moderate prices. METRO: Metro Center   (© 10Best)

Located across the street from the Treasury and one block from the White House, this 1856 saloon-turned-restaurant is popular with both locals and tourists. The menu features American classics including fish, steaks, and burgers. It is a great place for families. (from Southern Living)

MAKE DINNER RESERVATIONS! For lunch, just get there by noon. Anyway, dinner was excellent. The meal was succulent and the wine list was pricey but worth it. I'd still go there again and again - but only with reservations. By the way, the place was packed with people trying to get a seat and we just scooted right on in. Why? Because we made reservations.
