DUPONT CIRCLE. At Mimi's, be fed and entertained at the same time – the performing waitstaff and creative chefs are abundantly talented. Although the restaurant is called an "American" bistro, the menu celebrates many cultures that have influenced American cooking. Sunday brunch offers traditional favorites like omelets, biscuits, and waffles, along with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes like Provencal salad with grilled fish, hummus, and mezze plates with kebabs and tabbouleh. There are even spring rolls and quesadillas. An odd but appealing mix, especially when the staff breaks out into song and dance.

DUPONT CIRCLE. A little more relaxed than many other Washington, DC restaurants, this genteel establishment offers thick porterhouse steaks and a tender New York strip, served alongside homemade mashed potatoes that melt in your mouth. The masculine, wood-and-leather decor befits a restaurant specializing in steaks and cigars, and the owners are proud that almost every cut is still on the bone, which they say imparts more juiciness and flavor. Considering the consistently packed dining room, they must be on to something. METRO: Dupont Circle
