Fact 1: When the Dakota Territories were divided into North and South, the last governor of the Territories became the first governor of South Dakota. This man was named Arthur C. Mellette and he was from Watertown. Governor Mellette's 1883 home has been preserved with family heirlooms and period furnishings. It is open to the public from May through September.
