WHISTLER VILLAGE. Aubergine's elegantly rustic stone and wood décor is brightened with splashes of cobalt, and the views from its floor-to-ceiling windows showcase both Rainbow and Sproat Mountains – during the warmer months, the views from the patio are even more impressive. The emphasis here is on local produce, so every dish is wonderfully fresh and flavorful. Try a grilled steak, pork osso bucco, planked BC salmon or pot roast, each with accompaniments such as garlic mashed potatoes and fresh steamed vegetables. The "Experience" menu is more upscale: start with a terrine of foie gras or grilled squab breast with celeriac purée and huckleberry sauce, then move on to a magnificent main course of sautéed duck breast, caribou tenderloin, grilled venison, or butter poached lobster.

WHISTLER VILLAGE. This bistro is one of the most elegant restaurants at Whistler. The main dining room serves impressive entrees such as breast of Quebec Muscovy Duck with savory pear gingerbread, sautéed kale and maple roasted winter squash, and roasted Atlantic Lobster in a buttered fennel and saffron glaze, spiced vanilla oil, purple potatoes and parsnip purée. There is even a separate caviar menu. The menu offers constant surprises as it changes daily to accommodate the freshest seafood, produce and meats available. The wine cellar is one of the best in Canada, with over 1100 bottles and 85 champagnes. Wine Access Magazine called this bistro "the most memorable restaurant experience in Canada." Chef's 5-course tasting menu $135, with wines $260; 3-course table d'hote menu $98 menu; no cover charge.

WHISTLER VILLAGE. Ready for Pacific Northwest cuisine with a French twist? Try the Brie and carrot soup or the fried free-range egg sandwich with aged cheddar and bacon on toasted granola bread. For breakfast, the cinnamon pecan buns or buttermilk pancakes with Quebec maple syrup can't be beat. Take advantage of the takeout counter and grab a picnic lunch for your day of mountain biking or skiing. Casual.

WHISTLER VILLAGE. A longtime Whistler institution, Citta's (pronounced "Cheetahs") is a much favored local hangout. The setting is casual and fun, and there's a great patio where you can wile away the day people watching. The food is satisfying and affordable, with enough variety to please just about everyone. Thin crust pizzas are great, and there is a nice selection of share-able appetizers. Other options, such as burgers and regional specialties like maple garlic pork ribs, are perfect for satiating that appetite you built up during a day of skiing or snowboarding.

WHISTLER VILLAGE. Casual and lively, the Crab Shack stays busy virtually throughout the day. It's the best place in town for crab, and high on the list for oysters too. Not a seafood fan? Try a steak grilled to order instead. As evening falls, the bar scene gets livelier, and if there's a sporting event on television, you can bet that it will be tuned in on one of seven big-screen TVs. Live music is frequently on tap, too, and the bar serves up great cocktails, wine and beer.

WHISTLER VILLAGE. A rustic air pervades this popular chain, where diners can relax at a table in front of the cozy fireplace or take in the view from a window seat. Earls' menu takes cues from all over the world, so along with burgers and steaks, you're likely to find Hunan kung pao pasta, tandoori chicken satay, and Thai green chicken curry. Ribs, chicken and pizzas are also on the agenda, along with a nice selection of wines and beers. Earls is particularly ideal when you want comfort, reliable food, and just to hang out in a relaxing environment.

WHISTLER VILLAGE. GLC is one of those places with a split personality. By day, it's a busy and popular stop for hungry skiers who are in a rush to get back on the mountain. (It is, after all, situated right atop the Whistler gondola station.) Favored foods include poutine, the interestingly-named "sex cheese," nachos, burgers and the like. Once night settles, however, the place takes on an all together different ambience, becoming a happening nightspot. After about 11pm, some of the best DJs from the Pacific Northwest spin reggae and ambient house music, and the sound system is impressive to say the least. It's the place to get your party on!

WHISTLER VILLAGE. Chef-owner Rolf Gunther's restaurant is a winner in every aspect. Consistently rated one of Whistler's top restaurants, it exudes that appealing, rustic elegance so prevalent in mountain resort towns. It's the perfect ambience in which to partake of fine Canadian cuisine. Start with some oysters – choose one of eight different preparations – or perhaps a bit of seared Quebec foie gras on brioche toast with an apple raspberry salad, or caribou medallions with porcini mushrooms. Main courses are equally intriguing: marlin with a garlic sesame crust, grilled pheasant and prawns in Thai red curry sauce, grilled Arctic caribou, the Rim Rock Mixed Grill (roasted rack of lamb, beef tenderloin and caribou). A top notch mountain experience.

WHISTLER VILLAGE. Wild Wood is certifiably a local favorite, regularly being voted tops for awesome breakfasts and value-priced dinners. First of all, there's the breakfast menu. Served from 7am-3pm every day, it covers ALL the bases: ten different Benedicts, banana bread French toast, and a rocking plate of Eggs Rockefeller (poached eggs over "spiked" spinach and emmethal cheese with hollandaise and pan fries). Wide ranging lunch and dinner menus are equally divers and vast. Try the Halifax-Style Donairs, an herb-crusted salmon sandwich, asparagus-portabello rotini in pesto cream sauce, crab and mushroom bisque, walnut-crusted pork loin, or pistachio-crusted Alaskan halibut. End your meal on a sweet note with a slice of apple blackberry tart a la mode or gingerbread-pear torte with caramel poached pears.
