Overview

Mid-sized Wichita Falls, located in northern Texas, is only a two-hour drive from either Oklahoma City or Dallas. The town is home to Sheppard Air Force Base, a prominent local employer and headquarters for the European NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program. Natural beauty abounds in the surrounding countryside, and numerous lakes provide plenty of opportunity for recreation. Lake Wichita, Lake Texoma, Lake Arrowhead State Recreational Park, and Lake Kickapoo are all well-maintained and available for leisure-time fun. The town also features signature waterfalls, constructed in 1986 to replace ones washed away in floods a century earlier. Adjacent to Lucy Park, they're 54-feet high. In addition, a lovely walking trail begins at the park, passes by the falls, and runs four miles to O'Reilly Park. Along with an appreciation for nature, local folks are proud of the town's cultural activities. Wichita Falls Museum and Arts Center provides an understanding of the area's past and sponsors a variety of arts programs. The local symphony and ballet company offer outstanding productions as well. As proof of the town's dedication to the arts, turn-of-the-century Backdoor Theatre and Wichita Theater and Opera House have been restored to their original glories.
