DOWNTOWN. In the emerging district of 9th Street shops and eateries, Ameritage Bistro & Market offers a fresh format for early to late dining downtown. The market offers to-go breakfast and bakery treats, sandwiches, salads, gourmet groceries, and local breads from Little Italy. Lucky shoppers also have some unique choices here: a selection of Philadelphia's DiBruno Brothers gourmet cheeses, Miel's European patisseries, and cakes by Liz Marden of Hockessin. Table service in the bistro begins at lunch. Relaxed but sophisticated, Ameritage appeals to young professionals, business associates, friends and couples. A roomy bar area invites gathering. From prime beef burgers to French cassoulet, from warm frisee salad with poached egg and Dijon vinaigrette to sea bass with citrus, shaved fennel and black truffle vinaigrette, Bistro spans American and European flavors. More than 10 beers on tap include regional microbrews. Wine tastings and after-work drink specials offered. Ameritage also participates in "Wilmington After Work" with Wednesday specials. And to keep you in-the-know, "Ameritage" rhymes with "heritage."

CHRISTIANA. Housed in the plush clubhouse of the White Clay Creek Country Club and overlooking the championship course, At the Rail Wine Bar and Grill offers a range of appetizers, lunch and dinner entrees that have won attention and accolades. Innovative chef creations change seasonally; popular choices include Kobe beef burgers, prime steaks, chops, seafood and lump crab cakes. For lighter fare, there are salads and soups; the house clam chowder with chipotle has inspired admiring press of its own. The Rail's menu is matched with an equally impressive wine cellar with many wines by the glass; wine dinner events are scheduled throughout the year. Sunday brunch is a good reason not to eat the rest of the week. Live music on weekends. Patio seating overlooks expansive views of the property. Part of the Delaware Park Racetrack and Casino, the clubhouse and restaurant are located away from the casino scene. At the Rail is a "sure bet."

GREENVILLE. Brew Ha Ha!, the Delaware-founded coffee house, is an exclamation of "serious coffee." Part art gallery, part neighborhood hangout for all ages, Brew Ha Ha! is always about the coffee. Carefully trained baristas pull and froth while friendly staff serve devotees who line up daily. Brew Ha Ha! grew from founder Alisa Morkides' dream to bring the smooth espressos of Italy to her hometown; Greenville was her first cafe. Now, at ten Delaware locations, Wilmingtonians sip and sit with fresh muffins, bagels, and the morning news. Lunch offers trademark sandwiches named for local neighborhoods; sweets feature rich brownies and cakes. Beverages include varietal teas, juices, and, possibly, the "best ever" hot chocolate. Hours may vary by location.
