This museum is housed in the oldest building in Winnipeg and the largest oak log structure in North America. It was built as a convent for the order of Grey Nuns in 1846. The exhibits trace the history of the building – which was the first convent and hospital in Western Canada – as well as the Metis, descendants of marriages between French-Canadian voyageurs and the aboriginal peoples of the region.   (© 10Best)

User Reviews for St. Boniface Museum

As someone who is researching and writing about the life of Louis Riel, I found the displays in the St. Boniface Museum to be fascinating. It was very interesting to see actual items owned by Riel, such as his trunk and toiletry case, also his moccasins, a piece of suspender, and the hood that was pulled over his face prior to his hanging. It was very well presented and the exhibits were well documented and written in a thoughtful manner.
