Since 1270 when it was built as an Abbot's House for St. Mary's Abbey, this manor has served numerous purposes in York. King Henry's Council of the North was headquartered here, and today it is part of the University of York. The refectory and courtyard, which are open to the public, offer a pleasant place to enjoy a meal, to relax, or to take in the history of the area. This site is behind the Yorkshire Museum.   (© 10Best)
