The largest railway museum in Europe boasts millions of artifacts and related memorabilia, including more than 40 locomotives. The National Railway Museum has an excellent selection of hands-on exhibits, art, and photographs. There's also a restaurant, café, and gift shop on-site.

The national railway museam (nrm) is a brilliant place to go for a day in york, and you can very easily spend a day there. The exabitions are brilliant, the only thing that would make it better was if they moving, which some do, up and down the country. The only reason i haven't given the nrm 5 stars is because of the prices they charge to get into special events(the main musean is still free. The most recent examples are of their 1968 and all that event, where they charged over £11, to see 11 steam locomotives in steam, and at the event where all 4 a4's (4 mallards for those of you who don't know what a a4 is) in the uk met for the first time in preservation. For this event they charged a massive £32.50, to see them all lined up, for about 2 1/2 hours!!! Overall though this is a brilliant place to vistit if you are in or around york, or shildon, near darlington, as now there is another nrm there.
