6. The Old White Swan

Back in 1703, this nine-building facility held both an inn and a pigsty; luckily, the ambience has improved significantly over the years. A facelift of the building in 1983 won this pub a design award for making the most of historic features such as a hayloft, a fireplace, and a medieval framework. The courtyard with its picnic benches is a great place to take a break and have a real ale. Live music is featured several nights a week, ranging from pop/rock to folk, jazz and blues.   (© 10Best)
