4. Town of Varaždin

This baroque town is the very picture of Central European prim beauty. All the ingredients are there: preserved Old Town, medieval fortress overlooking lush countryside, numerous museums, galleries and collections, as well as Varaždin cemetery, a protected horticultural monument. Of many attractions and events, Špancir fest, a 10-day historical street festival (end of August-early September) and Baroque Evenings, the greatest celebration of baroque music in Croatia, deserve special mention.
