6. Zunfthaus zur Saffran

Since 1389, this has been the home of the Saffran Guild, a group that was founded in 1336 as a result of the city's political revolution that balanced the political clout of the aristocracy against the middle class. The Saffran Guild united merchants and traders and enjoyed great influence until 1798, when the French Revolution eliminated the political influence of the guild system. Today, the movement, which has nearly two hundred members, continues as a preservation society, maintaining time-honored traditions and festivals.   (© 10Best)
