4. Ironman Triathlon

The Buzz -- Zurich's Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of international events culminating in the World Championship race in Hawaii every October. Contenders traverse a course, comprised of 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of bicycling, and 26.2 miles of running, which wends its way around Zurich and the Zurichsee. About 1700 men and women compete in the Zurich qualifier, vying for one of 75 world championship spots. Running concurrently, the Z¨¹ri Triathlon has shorter distances and about 2500 competitors. On Sunday starting at 10am, there's a Kids Triathlon for ages 5-10. It's fun and exciting to watch even of you don't have a child participating. If you're going to watch the excitement, plan to use public transportation because there is no parking in the vicinity of the event.
