Blockhus is a restaurant that knows how to make a flavorful meal out of any entrée. Located in a house over two centuries old, the ambience is strongly traditional but refreshingly unique. Menu items include steaks and lamb marinated in succulent sauces and spices. There's also a great selection of cheeses from France.

I just wish I lived next door !
Every meal I've ever had here (and there have been many) has been an experience to remember. The best ingredients available, perfectly cooked, and simply served by friendly and knowledgeable staff - all of whom seem to cope with at least three languages as well . . .
Probably the best cheeseboard in Zurich - certainly for French cheese, anyway - and a winelist which, whilst it varies constantly (because M. le Patron buys all sorts of wonderful odds and ends, as well as the standard stuff) offers truly staggering value for some really old and wonderful wines (try 25 yr old cru classé claret for CHF70 a bottle; or CHF 120 a magnum !!)
OK, it's laid back and relaxed, not 'smart' and 'formal fine dining'; but as long as that doesn't worry you, go, try it, and be converted for life . . . and do let them persuade you to try the Vinegar as an aperitif; it really IS wonderful !
(Actually, I think I may not dare risk going back . . . I've just realised why it had no previous reviews : everyone else who knows and loves it wants to keep it quiet so they can still get a table . . . My God; what have I done ? I'm in REAL trouble now !)
