New Media Awards Powered by USA TODAY and 10Best Readers Focuses on Theme Park Bloggers

Winners in the 10Best Readers’ Choice New Media Award for Best Theme Park Blogger have just been announced after a four-week voting period ended earlier this week. The winners are as follows:

A panel of experts picked 20 initial nominees, and winners were then determined by popular vote. Experts Joel Bullock of The Coaster Critic, Roller Coaster Pro,  Steve Kalkofen,'s Theme Park guru Arthur Levine and USA TODAY's Experience America editor James Riley were chosen based on their extensive experience in social media and focus on theme park coverage.

It was a tight race throughout the month of voting. Additional nominees included Kurt Dahlin (The Coaster Guy), Jim Hill (Jim Hill Media), Scott and Carol Holmes (News Plus Notes), Brian McEnroe (Domain of Death 3), Nick Sim (Theme Park Tourist), John Stevenson (Coaster 101), Jeremy Thompson (Roller Coaster Philosophy), Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix (Mouse Planet), Tricia Vita (Amusing the Zillion) as well as Erik and Racheal Yates (Behind the Thrills).

Arthur Levine

One ride on a carousel, and Arthur Levine was hooked for life. Now an avowed park-aholic, he's been able to turn his passion into his profession. A travel writer who specializes in the amusement industry, Levine has been the Theme Parks Expert at since 2002. He also writes about parks regularly for USA Today and writes features for other publications such as Consumers Digest, the Denver Post, the Boston Herald, and the Columbus Dispatch. He is frequently cited in national media and is a featured speaker for industry organizations such as Walt Disney Imagineering.

James Riley

James Riley covers theme parks for USA TODAY as a travel editor for Experience America. While he could find every hidden Mickey at the Magic Kingdom, he leaves coasters with more than five inversions to the brave, and instead faces his own challenge: the line for churros.  

Steve Kalkofen

Steve Kalkofen has been covering theme parks in general and roller coasters in particular for about 15 years. He started out in the forums, then started writing his own blog back in early 2000. He is the editor and publisher of which tracks the technology trends, architecture, development and thrill of theme parks across the globe.

Joel Bullock
