Get a whirlwind tour of Phoenix at these can't miss spots.
Breakfast at LGO
La Grande Orange, or LGO to the locals, is a bustling neighborhood coffee/breakfast bar, pizzeria, and grocery. For breakfast, you can’t go wrong with anything off the “Fresh Eggs” menu. For a healthy yet hearty start to your day, try the “Daybreaker,” an egg white omelet with roasted turkey breast, then topped with fresh tomato-avocado salsa. Part of the fun of having breakfast at LGO is simply witnessing the busy procession of locals stopping in for a quick bite at this popular neighborhood eatery.
Morning Hike at Camelback Mountain
Not too far from La Grande Orange, the sandstone red hills of Camelback Mountain provide a perfect, postcard-worthy backdrop to the city. This local landmark, named for its resemblance to a kneeling camel, is also one of the city’s most popular hiking spots. Even if trail hiking is not your idea of fun, a brisk climb up Camelback rewards with sweeping views of the city. Spend the morning exploring the Camelback Mountain Echo Canyon Recreational Area, a challenging yet popular hiking spot that affords incredible views from the top.
Lunch Downtown at Vitamin T
Get a buzz off the sights and sounds of downtown Phoenix by heading to Vitamin T for a delicious lunch of tortas, tacos, and yes, even tequila. Vitamin T is the creation of local superstar chef Aaron May, who brings the “comida corrida” (“running food”) concept of Mexican City street food to downtown Phoenix. Try the Torta Ahogado (“drowned torta”), a Mexican specialty sandwich featuring slow roasted pork with pickled red onion, sliced avocado, and chili de arbol sauce, drowned in the house ahogado broth.
Explore the Galaxies at the Arizona Science Center
Just down the street from Vitamin T is the Arizona Science Center, an interactive museum featuring a planetarium, hands-on learning exhibits, and a five-story IMAX theatre. There are 350 hands-on exhibits as well as revolving calendar of popular touring exhibitions. Prepare yourself for a multisensory learning experience–with nary a bored kid (or adult) in sight.
Dinner at FEZ
There’s no better way to finish off your Phoenix excursion than with a great meal at one of central Phoenix’s hottest restaurants. FEZ serves American cuisine infused with Mediterranean fruits, flavors, and spices. The food is fun, colorful, and always fresh. Try gourmet delights such as Crisp Pomegranate Chicken, Apricot Salmon, or the famous FEZ Burger, a grilled angus burger with spicy honey molasses bbq sauce, cinnamon pears, feta, lemon garlic aioli, crispy onions, and cilantro on a ciabatta roll. Finish your day right with a menu of locally-inspired signature martinis and margaritas.
