For decades, Phoenix has been a destination for weary travelers seeking a place to slow down and recharge. From dude ranch retreats to 4-star spas and resorts, the Phoenix metro area offers dozens of places to pamper yourself and unwind.
The Clarendon Hotel and Spa in midtown Phoenix may not be on the city's spa circuit, but it has established itself as a hip outpost in central Phoenix for relaxation and socializing anyways. The hotel's spa menu includes massage, reflexology and organic airbrush tanning, featuring the use of organic, hand-blended spa products.
Now, The Clarendon is also becoming a haven for beginning and experienced yogis. The hotel is offering travelers yet another chance to de-stress with a unique rooftop yoga program that features unrivaled views of downtown Phoenix.

Rooftop yoga, as the name implies, takes place on the hotel's chic rooftop space, which is home to a popular bar and lounge during the evening.
The rooftop yoga program, which has been nicknamed the "Class in the Clouds," is presented several times a month by Sutra Studios, a popular local yoga studio with locations in midtown and the Roosevelt Arts District.
Most classes are scheduled for Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. (Check the hotel's events calendar for specific times and days.), making this a good place to recharge and get into a peaceful state of mind to prepare for the coming work week.
On full moon nights, rooftop yoga classes are scheduled for the evening to take advantage of the beauty and calm of the natural desert moonlight.
Every session features breath-synchronized movements that are enhanced by sweeping views of the downtown Phoenix skyline. Class instructors vary, but classes are designed for yogis of all ages and skill levels. Most classes are further enhanced with gentle, ambient music played by a live DJ.
Rooftop yoga guests are invited to take advantage of that post-yoga glow by hanging out by the pool, or socializing downstairs in the hotel's Cafe Tranquilo, which offers brunch on Sundays (including $4 brunch cocktail specials).
The rooftop yoga classes at the Clarendon Hotel are complementary to hotel guests. For drop-in guests, the rate is $10 to $15 per class.
Many classes fill up fast, especially the Lunar Yoga Flow classes, so advanced reservation is recommended. You can check upcoming class dates and times and reserve your spot for rooftop yoga on the Sutra Studios website.
Be sure to dress comfortably, and don't forget your yoga mat.
