8. Desert Forest Golf Club

Accuracy is the name of the game at this course, which features natural desert areas around the fairways. The long course also has several dogleg holes, so if you can shape your tee shot, hitting the fairway may be easier. Start getting wild off these tees and you will be in for a long day. Greens are undulating and quick, so don't think the battle is over once you hit the green.

7. Troon Golf and Country Club

Featuring rolling terrain and changes in elevation, this challenging course tests every shot. Its mounded fairways cause uneven lies, making approach shots to well-protected greens even more difficult. With relatively little water in play, the course advises you to be concerned with cross-bunkers and natural desert areas when getting off the tees.

6. Golf Club at Desert Mountain – Renegade

This unique course features two different pin locations on each green. Before the round, you not only need to decide which tees to play, but you must also decide which flags to play – white or gold. The white are typically towards the front of the greens while the gold are placed in more challenging locations. On several occasions, the difference between the two pins can be as much as two or more clubs.

5. Golf Club at Desert Mountain – Geronimo

This outstanding course breaks you in slowly, but be prepared to shift from regarding it as a friendly course with a number of scoring opportunities to viewing it as a demanding course that requires accurate shots and long carries over trouble. Featuring a number of elevation changes, it leads you to encounter several elevated tees and greens throughout the beautiful layout.

4. Golf Club at Desert Mountain – Cochise

Host site of the Senior PGA Tour's Tradition Tournament, this championship course is everything you would imagine. With beautiful desert scenery throughout, the course requires accurate iron play and a creative short game to perform well. With the majority of trouble located around greens, errant approach shots often leave you in a difficult position.

3. Estancia Club

This Fazio course is a very fair test. With relatively wide fairways, it offers a number of good opportunities to fire at the pins if they avoid fairway bunkers. Water does come into play on occasion, so be aware of what lies ahead when on the tee. Hit these medium-sized greens in regulation, and you can have a run at the birdie.

2. Desert Highlands Golf Club

Extremely exclusive, this course offers six different sets of tees, allowing all levels of golfers to find a comfortable challenge. Treacherous desert areas that are nearly impossible to play from line the fairways. Many of the holes are long, but if you get too aggressive and miss the fairway, you probably won't be happy; that is, if you find your ball at all.
