Tucson's Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch might not sound like a fitting destination for modern-day cowboys, but don't be fooled by its rustic-sounding moniker. The historic inn offers guests picture-perfect hilltop views of the city's sweeping Catalina Mountains, comfy guest rooms and a long list of resort amenities to boot.
Many of the guest rooms at the inn – which was founded in 1929 as a home-away-from-home for wealthy East Coast visitors – have recently received upgrades. All rooms have been freshly painted and outfitted with modern WiFi, iPod docking stations, flat-screen TVs and new furniture pieces.
But perhaps the biggest update at Hacienda del Sol is the opening of its new Terraza Garden Patio and Lounge.

The hotel resort was already home to The Grill, an award-winning fine dining restaurant. Now, the hotel is offering an option for guests who want to enjoy a casual meal, sip on a specialty cocktail and drink in the southern Arizona sunshine on the hotel's scenic courtyard.
The menu at Terraza features Southwestern-inspired appetizers like fresh corn tortillas served with salsa and house-made guacamole. Another house specialty is the poblano roasted hummus, which comes with tangy jalapeño and cilantro puree served with tortilla chips, grilled pita bread, garlic and a zesty tahini sauce.
On the entree side of the menu, guests can enjoy gourmet burgers made with Wagyu beef, along with fish tacos and salads.
The drink menu at Terraza is extensive, offering guests hand-crafted cocktails and craft beers, including five Arizona-made draft brews.
Want to enjoy your drink outside? Terraza features a state-of-the-art retractable roof and wall system, so guests can enjoy the Tucson sunshine at the touch of a button.
Cigar aficionados, take note: Terraza also offers a cigar bar with a selection of smokes ranging from light, fruit-scented cigarillos to hefty, full-bodied cigars. The cigar menu includes drink suggestions for winning smoke-and-drink pairings.
The Terraza Garden Patio and Lounge is the first in an impressive list of new developments on the horizon for the Hacienda this year. The inn plans on expanding the property by adding 32 modern guest rooms with mountain views on the north side of the guest ranch. A new pool with mountainside views is also in the works.
In the meantime, the hotel has also added a new parking lot, and a new entrance is also expected to be completed before spring starts blooming in Tucson.
Not too shabby for one of Tucson's oldest and most unique hotels.
