Whether you are a vegetarian looking for a filling and affordable lunch, a healthy-living type searching for a really nutritious meal or a non-fussy eater just looking for a break from all the meat that Rio restaurants have to offer, Blyss Holy Foods is well worth seeking out.

This little lunch spot is hard to find unless you know it's there, but once you have the address, it couldn't be easier to reach. The restaurant is hidden in a little arcade just opposite the main square in Ipanema, close to the neighborhood's metro station. Once you've found it, you're in for a meat-free feast. Blyss Holy Foods works on a serve-yourself buffet basis, and diners can load up their plates with a mouthwatering range of hot and cold dishes that range from basics, such as brown rice and beans, to piping hot soups, savoury pies, fish-free sushi, colorful salads and a range of yummy sides such as hummus and guacamole.

The owners of Blyss Holy Foods also run yoga classes, and the emphasis is on providing food that will generally nourish the body as well as sate the appetite and thrill the tastebuds. Organic, locally sourced products are used wherever possible, and the menu changes daily. There's a range of fresh juices and smoothies to choose from too, although note that these are not included in the buffet price.
