Christmas Shopping: While The Grove is always one of L.A.'s most popular shopping malls, at Christmas time the place really rocks! Santa and his elves are there to greet the kids from November 17 to December 24, in an elaborate gingerbread cottage. Even your pet can visit and take a photo with Santa here! There's a massive Christmas tree, too, carolers strolling and singing, and it even snows every evening right at 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. All the stores are open until 11:00 p.m. starting on December 12, so getting in that last-minute shopping is a snap here. Stores include Nordstrom, Apple, American Girl, Gap, Barnes & Noble and, in a special pop-up holiday shop, Revolve. That huge online store has taken over a spot at The Grove, filled with party clothing for both men and women just in time for the season.
Best Shopping: Day or night, summer or winter, the Grove always teems with shoppers. It's such a popular place that teens like to hang out there, taking selfies by the animated music fountain in the center of the open-air mall; adults like to hit the diverse shops (from Apple to American Girl to Barney's, UGG Australia, Unionmade, Abercrombie & Fitch) and department stores (Nordstrom, Crate and Barrel); and everyone loves the 14-screen Pacific Theatres movie palace. There's great food at the Whisper Restaurant and Lounge and at Morel's French Steakhouse, too, and just a stroll away (or take the kitschy Grove Trolley) is the Original Farmer's Market, where a collection of classic restaurants awaits. Try the Gumbo Pot there for an authentic taste of New Orleans!
Shopping Centers: Designed to recollect downtown areas of days gone by, this shopping complex sits adjacent to the historic Farmer's Market. It features a host of trendy apparel, accessory, and home goods venues, including Banana Republic, Nordstrom, Coach, Crate & Barrel, J. Crew, Anthropologie, and Tommy Bahama. In addition, it offers an 18-screen cinema and restaurant options that focus on everything from barbecue to steaks, pastries to Italian fare.
