But a brand new addition is generating quite a bit of excitement. On March 4, 2015, a LEGO Death Star was unveiled to the public as the latest addition to Star Wars Miniland and just in time for Star Wars Days, a special event at the park that happens each spring, this year during the weekend of March 7 and 8.
As you might expect, the Death Star model is gigantic, spanning eight feet wide and 13 feet high, weighing more than 1900 pounds. Featuring a planet-destroying super laser, the massive LEGO model is made out of more than 500,000 LEGO bricks.
It's so big that they installed a metal skeleton on the inside to hold everything in place, and it currently holds the title as the largest model in the park.

Do you remember the scene from the Star Wars movie where Luke Skywalker flew his X-wing fighter into the trench and eventually destroyed the Death Star? A display of this scene is included. However, the design of the Death Star stems from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and includes six animated Turbo Laser Turrets and LEGO starship models built out of more than 20,000 LEGO bricks.
Building stations will surround the Death Star, where guests may create their own LEGO starships as X-Wings, Tie Fighters and Y-Wings circle overhead.
The unveiling of the Death Star happened in anticipation of the annual Star Wars Days events at LEGOLAND on Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, March 8. During these two days, guests can come face to face with favorite Star Wars characters in LEGO form, including the infamous Darth Vader minifigure.

They'll test Star Wars knowledge during a round of Jedi Trivia, join in a Star Wars costume contest and participate in a galactic family LEGO building challenge. Guests may also visit the LEGO Fan Gallery to admire the LEGO Star Wars creations and photography created by LEGO fans.
Admission to Star Wars Miniland and Star Wars Days is included with general admission to LEGOLAND California. The park is typically geared toward families with kids that are ages two to 12. Don't forget to visit SEA LIFE Aquarium and LEGOLAND California's two water parks, just steps away from the main park.
Remember, in the LEGO realm, everything is awesome . . . even the Death Star with all of its bad guy might.
