The new LEGOLAND Hotel opened last spring in Carlsbad, CA, much to the excitement of kids everywhere. With decor every bit as bright as a shiny new LEGO set, the location couldn't be better either, at only about half an hour from San Diego. Plus, the fun and family-friendly resort is right next to the LEGOLAND California park entrance. This is convenient because a major perk of being a guest of the Hotel is that you can enter the park 30 minutes before it opens, avoiding the crowds.

The 250 rooms are themed in three different ways: Pirate, Kingdom or Adventure. Kids sleep in bunk beds conveniently set in their own enclave around the corner from the main bedroom. To familiarize themselves with the hotel, kids are handed a simple scavenger hunt at check-in to earn a prize locked inside the room's treasure chest.
LEGOs float in the hotel's kid-friendly pool under the watchful eyes of lifeguards who encourage little swimmers to wear hotel-provided life jackets.

There is a lot happening at this hotel.
Things to look for include an in-floor whoopie cushion near the elevators, which begin playing music to a spinning disco ball as soon as it begins to move. Bricks Family Restaurant serves a reasonably-priced buffet for breakfast and dinner, featuring international cuisine. And there's a big play area adjacent to the lobby with thousands of LEGOs and character appearances at certain times.
Just when you think that all the color and squeals might make the experience a bit rough for weary parents, rest assured that the Skyline Lounge offers a full bar and that the snack area near the play structure and lobby has happy hour, allowing for sips of discounted wine while the kids play.
