Home to LEGOLAND and SEALIFE Aquarium, Carlsbad is definitely a family-friendly destination. Located on the beach and spanning inland to the world-renown La Costa Resort and Spa, Carlsbad is a residential resort town about 30 minutes north of Downtown San Diego. Golfers come to enjoy two famous courses: La Costa Resort and Spa's newly renovated course as well as the Arnold Palmer course at Park Hyatt Aviara.
See & Do
By far, the number one attraction in Carlsbad is LEGOLAND, a park geared toward kids ages 2-12. There are over 50 rides and hands-on experiences, 4D movies and now a water park. SEALIFE Aquarium is right next door where families can spend an hour or so browsing fish among displays of LEGO creatures and people. Look out for the new LEGOLAND hotel, scheduled to open in 2013.
Don't be fooled by casual attire, because Carlsbad is a beach town with residents and visitors that enjoy everything from a quick to-go taco to ocean-view or resort dining. Virtually every cuisine can be found. Steak, seafood and a Wine Spectator recognized wine list can be found at West Steak. Try Tin Leaf for fast-casual, healthy fare.
Carlsbad's most famous hotel is perhaps the La Costa Resort and Spa, home to an award-winning spa and gold medal golf course. Fresh from a $50 million renovation, La Costa also has an adult-only Edge pool, water slides and a kids club. A bit further north lies Park Hyatt Aviara, home to another luxury hotel with an Arnold Palmer golf course.
Carlsbad Premium Outlets deliver discounts on everything from homewares to kids wear. Barney's New York, Banana Republic, Theory, Stride Rite and Le Creuset are just a handful of the 90 stores in the shopping mall. The Forum is a small boutique shopping center featuring Anthropologie, Sur La Table and Paper Source. Both are popular with residents and tourists alike.
