Established by Danish settlers in the early 1900s, Solvang is a thriving hub of Scandinavian architecture and culture on the West Coast. It's also located conveniently close to acres upon acres of prime vineyards.
Sounds delightful, right? Of course! But where should a well-heeled traveler like yourself stay? Surely not at a dusty bed and breakfast or sad motel.
You're in luck! The Landsby – a lovely, 41-room boutique hotel – has opened in the center of town. Book a stay at this bright and fresh inn to enjoy contemporary Scandinavian design paired with warm Californian hospitality.

Relax in style in one of their beautifully renovated rooms, which feature white oak floors, crisp linens and pillow-top mattresses. The simple palette and clean lines will leave you feeling completely at ease.
One extra-fun perk for guests comes from The Landsby's unique partnership with local favorite McConnell's Fine Ice Creams. They offer pints for guests to enjoy in-room or in the garden courtyard near the firepit. There are several signature flavors exclusive to the hotel.
Having a hard time sleeping without your furry friend? (No, we don't mean him.) Relax and catch some zzz's with Fido or Fluffy. The Landsby allows small dogs up to 20 pounds for a flat fee of $75. Just be sure to call ahead to make sure a pet-friendly room is available!

Whether you're staying at the hotel or just passing through town, don't miss their lobby bar, home to local wines and craft cocktails featuring house-made shrubs.
A shrub? What is that? We're not talking about a small, leafy plant. Drinking shrubs are a sweet and tangy vinegared syrup made from freshly macerated fruit. At The Landsby, they're mixed with sparkling water or paired with alcohol to create one of their signature cocktails.
The bar is home to a few very happy hours every day from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m, featuring a selection of $5 beer, wine, cocktails and better-than-average bar food.
The onsite restaurant Mad & Vin (which translates from Danish to English as "Food & Wine") cooks up traditional dishes with a Central Coast flare. Stop in for breakfast or dinner seven nights a week.
If that doesn't get your motor going, there are also many wine tasting rooms both within Solvang and in neighboring Los Olivos.
