This gem on Tennyson Street offers fresh, fine-dining Mexican fare served in an intimate and inviting atmosphere. It's proof that "romantic" doesn't have to mean an expensive or conventional menu. Gloria Nunez, a native of Mexico City, and her grandson, David Lopez, opened El Chingon in this charming old house in December 2013. There are traditional dishes including tacos, tostadas and burritos, along with less expected options such as duck and bison. There's also fresh fish and an excellent selection of salads and soups. Cocktails are creative and meticulously crafted; you and your sweetheart will surely find one or two that get the evening off to the perfect start. There aren't many tables but choose one at the back for that extra bit of privacy away from the front door. Wherever you sit, you'll be greeted warmly. In summer, the outdoor patio is the place to be.
